Pain Treatments

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at appropriate points to bring about a change in the body. The theory of acupuncture can be thought of as the “reading” of the body’s ‘flow of Qi.’ Qi is often called energy, when there is flow there is health, when there is no flow there is dis-harmony, pain and or disease.
Pain is a sign of lack of flow of Qi in the area of that pain. So, the treatment for pain is simple; get flow happening and the pain will go. If there is flow then there can be repair and healing. Flow is encouraged by placing needle at appropriate points, and once flow is achieved the pain should reduce or go away totally. In some cases the pain will be taken away totally and instantly, others can be a reduction of pain only.
It would be wonderful to be able to say that one treatment and pain can be eliminated forever; however, this is not the case. In most cases pain can be relieved for about 3 days initially and then follow up treatments are required. With recurrent treatments it is possible for most people to have their pain taken away for extended periods of time if not permantantly.
Dr Ian Dummett (CM) has extensive experience in pain management; he has trained in China and provided pain management in the Emergency Dept in the Northern Hospital in Epping Melbourne.

Injury Medicine

Chinese Medicine is the combination of Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Tui Na (Chinese Massage) and Diet Therapy.
At the Tasmanian Chinese Medicine & Injury Clinic (TCM & Injury Clinic), we deal with all injuries no matter their cause or duration.
We can use acupuncture for the relief of pain and to improve recovery, or we may use herbal medicine both internally and/or externally to relieve pain and speed recovery. We may also use a combination of all modalities offered at the clinic.
The end result is a tailored treatment to the individual to suit their problem/s and their needs.
Dr Ian Dummett (Chinese Medicine) has extensive experience with injury repair and rehabilitation, combined with Degrees in Human Biology and Chinese Medicine which allows him to provide an individual and comprehensive treatment program.
Once the Injury is under control, Ian may advise that supervised rehabilitation be undertaken.
